About

Montenegro is a Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline. The Bay of Kotor, resembling a fjord, is dotted with coastal churches and fortified towns such as Kotor and Herceg Novi. Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, encompasses limestone peaks, glacial lakes and 1,300m-deep Tara River Canyon.

Montenegro (meaning Black Mountain) is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is on the Adriatic Sea, between Albania (to the South) and Croatia to the North. Inland (to the East and South-East) it also has a common border with Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and beside Croatia.

Montenegrin has been the official language in Montenegro since 2007, while Serbian, Bosnian, Albanian and Croatian are also in official use. English is not widely spoken by the population, however you will find locals who speak English in the main tourist areas.

What is Montenegro famous for?

The country is famous for its spectacular mountains, glacial lakes, the elegant beach resorts of the Budva Riviera, and the UNESCO World Heritage listed Bay of Kotor. Montenegro is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with an abundance of natural, historic and cultural gems and treasures to explore.
